Myself and Carl Garner went along to Baltic Centre of Contemporary Art on Monday (25th) to see what exhibitions are currently on show and subsequently saw the work of Shen Xin, Toni Schmale, Eric. N Mack and Jose Davila. The collection of work on show is part of the Baltic Artists' Award 2017, and on arrival to the gallery we were given a black token each, this was to be used as a way of voting for which artist we felt deserved to receive the award.

The matt black painted aesthetic of Toni Schmale's sculptures did appeal to me, but it was the work by Jose Davila that I found to be most interesting. This was due to his piece which included metal girders being suspended off the ground in mid air, alongside a large red balloon carefully positioned underneath a suspended boulder. This piece for me expressed good use of architectural space, interaction of materials and a sense of movement and I therefore chose to cast my vote for Jose Davila on this basis. (Shown below in the photographs).
