Throughout this project exploring and experimenting with my ideas of geometric abstraction and the techniques of hard-edge painting and abstract sculpture, I have been particularly intrigued and interested with the artists' and aesthetic qualities that are linked to the movement known as minimalism. These artists' being Ellsworth Kelly, Carl Andre, Tony Smith and Dan Flavin. The aim to create 'objects' that are impersonal, have been fabricated out of industrial materials and methods, and don't express any narrative, closely relates to my own preferred studio practice and ideas. The context of creating art which requires viewers' to determine their own understanding based on their interaction of 'real space' is something that appeals to me.
