Light art or luminism is an applied art form in which light is the medium of expression. It is an art form in which either a sculpture produces light, or light is used to create a "sculpture" through the manipulation of light, colours, and shadows. As i have recently began introducing sculpture into my studio practice i had the idea of using coloured LED lights as a way of adding colour to the piece/s instead of using paint. This interaction of light alongside sculpture within an architectural space I feel could be an interesting direction to explore as its unlike anything I've previously done. It was the work of Dan Flavin that first caught my interest when researching the movement of Minimalism.

Examples of Dan Flavin's practice: -
