Hard-Edge Painting/ Geometric Abstraction.
One of the main aspects of my practice during this semester has been the Hard-Edge painting technique which is a style closely related to Geometric abstraction, Op Art, Post-painterly Abstraction, and Color Field painting. This impersonal painting application requires having multiple areas of colour alongside each other in way that looks aesthetically sharp and shows clarity of line/s. This approach to abstract painting allows myself to explore my interest in geometry and abstraction to create compositions that deal with contrasting colours, shape, movement, architecture, depth, line, perspective and space. In terms of context, Geometric Abstraction also applies to my work, due to the reductive nature of it and the non-objective style I have developed.
Examples of Hard-Edge Painting and Geometric Abstraction by Frank Stella, Ellsworth Kelly and Josef Albers.
